We are proud of what we have achieved to date at the Web Foundation. We are already impacting the lives of over 2 billion people across 70 countries through our various programmes and initiatives. Over the past year, we have:
- Launched our Open Data Lab in Jakarta. This Lab model is a world-first, and is helping citizens, civil society, and governments use digital data to drive development and increase transparency and accountability across South-East Asia. A gift of $500,000 would allow us to bring the power of open data to Africa.
- Established the world’s broadest technology sector coalition, the Alliance for Affordable Internet. By combining the expertise and resources of its 70+ members, the Alliance is changing policies to drive internet prices down in five countries around the world, affecting over 300m people. For every $250,000 we raise, we can expand our work to one more country for at least two years.
- Partnered with 50 local organisations in 35 countries to win their campaigns for human rights online. In this way, we’ve helped to stop women and girls being harassed online in Pakistan, and empowered Turkish activists to fight back against draconian online censorship, to name just two examples. If we can raise $50,000 more, we can double our fighting fund and help at least 100 organisations.
