Today, we’re excited to share that Adrian Lovett has been named as our new President & CEO. Adrian will join us from ONE, the campaigning and advocacy organisation co-founded by U2’s Bono to help end extreme poverty. He spent most of the past year as ONE’s interim CEO, and previously led the Europe division of ONE as its Executive Director since 2011.
Adrian’s 20-year career in international development and advocacy has focused on delivering policy change on complex global issues in the Global South, North America and Europe. He played a key leadership role in successful campaigns such as Make Poverty History and the Jubilee 2000 campaign to cancel the debts of developing countries, and has also held senior roles at the likes of Oxfam and Save the Children. He’ll take the reins on September 4, and will be based in our London office.
Today’s announcement marks the end of an extensive international search process, which has involved hundreds of candidates across multiple continents. Ultimately, the search committee – led by Web Foundation Founding Director Rosemary Leith – decided that Adrian had the right skills, experience and personality to lead the Web Foundation as we seek to deliver digital equality – a world where everyone has the same rights and opportunities online. We can’t wait for him to get started!
