We are delighted to welcome Nanjira Sambuli to the Web Foundation team as Digital Equality Advocacy Manager. Nanjira will manage the Foundation’s advocacy efforts to promote digital equality in access to and use of the Web, with a particular focus on our Women’s Rights Online work. She brings broad expertise as an advocate, researcher, policy analyst, and consultant working at the intersection of governance, media, culture, and society to the role.
Immediately prior to joining the Web Foundation, Nanjira was Research Lead at the iHub in Nairobi. Here she helped shape governance and tech research, and provided strategic guidance for the growth of technology research in East Africa. Her recent research includes work on ICT and Governance in East Africa (iHub Research), Cybersecurity and Cyber-resilience in East Africa (CIGI), and research into the challenges of promoting Internet access in developing countries while upholding net neutrality principles (Journal of Cyber Policy). Nanjira is a regular speaker and media commentator, and is currently serving as a deputy on the United Nations High Level Panel for Women’s Economic Empowerment. She is also a Trustee at mySociety, a board member at the Media Policy Research Centre and an advisory board member at SumOfUs. She has previously worked with Sandstorm Kenya, UN-Habitat and UNEP.
We’re excited to have Nanjira on board, and hope you’ll join us in welcoming her to the team! You can find her on Twitter, and she’ll be speaking at the forthcoming Africa Summit on Women and Girls in Technology.
