We’re delighted to hear that Al Jazeera was commended at this month’s Online Media Awards in London in the category “Best Use of Crowd Sourcing or Citizen Journalism”.
This accolade stemmed from the channel’s coverage of the Kenyan elections. We supported this coverage by developing and deploying a voice-based platform, a modification of a platform called Foroba Blon, which was created in Mali as part of the Web Foundation-led VOICES project.
Voices applies innovative voice browsing web technologies to tackle diverse challenges in the developing world – you can read more about the project in a recent New Scientist article or on the official Voices website. You can also read more about a previous award for Foroba Blon (most innovative news platform : the International Press Institute) here.
Congratulations to Al Jazeera!
