Women’s Rights Online initiative selected as beneficiary of ProtonMail annual action

Web Foundation · January 16, 2020

The Web Foundation’s Women’s Rights Online initiative has been selected as a beneficiary for ProtonMail’s annual auction. The auction, whichtook place over the 2019 December holiday season, raised funds for three organisations — identified by the ProtonMail community — that improve privacy, and support free speech and independent journalism.

The auction had three lifetime ProtonMail accounts up for bid and raised $11,100 for the Women’s Rights Online initiative, an amount which will be graciously matched by ProtonMail.

Ingrid Brudvig, Gender Policy Manager and coordinator of the Women’s Rights Online initiative, shared:

“We are thrilled that the Web Foundation’s Women’s Rights Online initiative has been selected as a beneficiary of the 2019 Lifetime Account Auction. Thank you ProtonMail for your generous support, and all the members of the Proton community who placed bids in this year’s auction. This contribution will make strides in supporting women’s digital participation in developing countries — ensuring the Web empowers women and girls around the world.”
