The International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the World Bank and the Government of Canada have just announced the 3rd International Open Data Conference, to be held in May 27-29, 2015, in Ottawa, Canada. The Web Foundation is delighted to join the hosts and a distinguished group of organisations as conference partner and will support the organizing committee as the coordinator of the conference program.
The theme of the conference is “Enabling the Data Revolution”. We believe it is time for the open data movement to live up to its clear potential by delivering tangible benefits to all world citizens. It is our hope that this gathering – which will bring together sector and open data experts, senior government officials, industry leaders, and civil society champions – will prove to be a catalyst on this path. The conference is an opportunity to broaden dialogue and include the voices of experts in sectors that want to use open data and assess how to scale-up innovative approaches proven to work. It’s also a chance to strengthen coordination among open data initiatives across various levels of government, topics, regions, and sectors.
Pre-registration is now open. Conference updates will follow in the coming weeks and months. We look forward to seeing you in 2015!
The Web Foundation has been a pioneer in the Open Data movement for many years. Recent highlights include launching the world’s first Open Contracting Data Standard, and leading the Open Data in Developing Countries research project, which aims to unlock the benefits of open data for citizens across the global South.
