Juan Ortiz Freuler

Senior Policy Fellow

Juan is a Senior Policy Fellow at the Web Foundation. He has several years of experience researching and leveraging ICTs to advocate for government reforms, to increase transparency, citizen participation and accountability. His greatest concern is inequality and the role the web can play in making the world a fairer and more peaceful place.
Juan was previously a Google Policy Fellow, an Open Society Fellow (OSIRG), and had worked with several NGOs in Mexico and Argentina. He developed a web-based methodology to monitor judicial appointments in Buenos Aires, researched ICTs and citizen participation practices implemented by oversight institutions in Latin America, and has advocated for changes in Mexico’s Open Government Data and Universal Internet Access policies.

A graduate from Di Tella Law School in Buenos Aires, Juan has recently completed Masters in both Public Policy and Social Science of the Internet at the University of Oxford. Juan speaks Spanish, English and Portuguese.
