Marcia Blenko is currently an advisory partner at Bain & Company. She joined Bain in 1988 and was elected to the partnership in 1995. Marcia is currently based in the Boston office, but also worked in Bain’s London office for 13 years.
Marcia co-founded Bain’s Global Organization practice, which she led for a number of years. She has extensive experience collaborating with clients to optimize operating model design, improve decision and execution capabilities, and lead successful implementation of organizational change. She has a long track record of bringing practical approaches to help clients improve the quality and pace of decision-making and execution through simplifying and better aligning their operating models to deliver strategic priorities. She also has deep expertise in supporting leadership teams in defining and embedding cultural shifts and new ways of working.
Marcia has had a long-standing passion for the nonprofit sector. While at Bain in London back in the ‘90s, she started up and led the London office’s various pro bono social impact efforts, including the launch of Business Action on Homelessness, a collaborative effort involving businesses, government, and the nonprofit sector aimed at breaking the cycle of homelessness in the U.K. She currently serves on several nonprofit boards including GBH Educational Foundation, and Education Resource Strategies, in addition to The World Wide Web Foundation. She also dedicates some of her time as a Senior Advisor at Bridgespan, helping philanthropy and nonprofit clients align their operating models for greater impact.
Marcia has published numerous articles on organization, leadership and decision effectiveness including “Who has the D? How Clear Decision Roles Enhance Organizational Performance” and “The Decision-driven Organization” which both appeared in The Harvard Business Review. She co-authored the book Decide & Deliver: Five Steps to Breakthrough Performance in your Organization (Harvard Business Press, September 2010). She has also collaborated with Bridgespan to co-author “Operating Models: How Nonprofits Get from Strategy to Results”.
Prior to joining Bain & Company, Marcia worked for Goldman Sachs in both New York and London. She earned her MBA from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, where she was an Arjay Miller Scholar. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Brown University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics/Economics.
Marcia lives outside of Boston with her husband and has three grown children.
