Chris Mathias is a successful entrepreneur and leader, born and raised in India but now living in the UK. He is married with three daughters and is an active sportsman and keen traveler. He combines these interests with active roles in startup investing and in social and philanthropic causes.
Chris served as CEO of Harpur Holdings Ltd; CEO of Marketing Choice Ltd; Founder and Chairman, Conduit communications Ltd: Founder and Chair, Careline services Ltd; Founder and Chair, CBI; CEO, R.T. Tanner and Co Ltd; and Advisory Board member, Barclays Private Bank. He co-founded CMG Partners and Arbor Ventures, with a strong focus on very early stage companies and turnaround/restructure situations. In this context Chris has been involved in multiple further startups and early stage businesses. He is currently the chair of both CMG Partners and Arbor Ventures.
In partnership with Imperial College London, Chris founded Imperial Innovations India (I2India). Chris is and has been actively involved with a number of charities and not-for-profit organizations. In particular organizations and projects that are sustainable beyond the lifetime of a funding commitment, build lasting capacity, develop local skills and are focused on the very poor.
Chris has been a trustee or board member of several organizations including Digital Links International, Common Purpose, World Links, Impetus Trust, Charity Technology Trust and Homestart. He supported the start up of Basic Needs India and he is an Ambassador for Action Aid and supporter of and advisor to Oxfam GB.
Chris is currently serving on the boards of British Asian Trust (founder trustee and chair of the investment committee) and Hummingbird Trust (family foundation which is seeking to prevent the trafficking of women and children) through Kolkata in West Bengal.
