The Open Data Charter was set up as a Global Multi-Stakeholder Action Network with two types of leading members: Stewards and Lead Stewards. The Web Foundation participates as a Lead Steward alongside the the Government of Canada, the Government of Mexico, the Government of the United Kingdom, Omidyar Network and IDRC / Open Data for Development.

The Charter’s activities are coordinated through an Interim Secretariat. More information about the charter, resources for open data implementation and the adoption process can be found at opendatacharter.net.

This project is supported by the Open Data for Development (OD4D) program, a partnership funded by Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the World Bank, United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID), and Global Affairs Canada (GAC).

The Charter also receives support from the Omidyar Network, a philanthropic investment firm dedicated to harnessing the power of markets to create opportunity for people to improve their lives. They invest in and help scale innovative organisations to catalyse economic and social change.
